Flexible Programming
All students of the VERB will sign up for one schedule for the entire summer. (i.e. 2 day, 3 day, 4 day, or 5 day). You have the flexibility to choose which days of the week you would like to send your children. You may enroll for any number of weeks, but all weeks must be contiguous, unless prearranged with the director. Any changes to the schedule must be made known to the director in writing at least 2 weeks prior to the change. You will be charged for your original schedule and additional days billed at $50/additional day if the change has not been made far enough in advance in writing.
We expect and encourage family vacations or other needs to be gone in the summer. To provide for that, Students who are enrolled at least 5 contiguous weeks are eligible for one week vacation voucher. Eligible students are allowed one week of vacation at no charge with two weeks written advance notice. Parent must complete and submit their VERB Vacation Vouxhers with their payment 2 weeks in advance of their vacation. For additional absences, regular tuition will be charged and payable.
Payment Policy
Payments are due on Friday by 5PM for the following week's charges. A $15 late fee will be assessed for all accounts not paid by close of business each Friday. Children will not be allowed to attend the program if the family falls behind in tuition payments more than one (1) week.
In the unfortunate event that an account payment is returned NSF (Insufficient Funds), the family will incur a $30 NSF fee on their statement. Payment for that week's charges, plus the returned check amount plus the $30 NSF fee will be due by Friday, 5PM, in order for the student to return the following week.
Field Trips
Field trips will be scheduled two times each full week. Field trips will include a variety of activities such as Deanna Rose Farm, the Kansas City Zoo, Science City, Kaleidoscope, and more. We will be transported by bus each time. A blanket field trip permission form must be filled out and on file for children to be able to participate in the field trips. A calendar with scheduled field trips will be available at the beginning of each summer month. If your child cannot attend the field trip, other arrangements will need to be made for their care.
Swimming will be one of our weekly field trips. Students should bring a bag with a swimming suit, towel, and comb/brush on these days (students may wear their swimming suit before we go swimming, but will need a change of clothes for after). Swimmers choosing to
do so may bring goggles; the goggles will be their responsibility, not that of the VERB or YMCA.YMCA lifeguards require a swim test on the first visit. Students will wear colored wristbands to show their swim ability and will be monitored accordingly.
We will also visit the Mid-Continent Public Library on our YMCA days. All VERB kids should turn a library card in to their teacher prior to the first visit. They will be issued a library bag where they can keep their card and books checked out in their name. If a student does not have a library card, we will help them apply for one. Students will be responsible for their own library books, and any late fees incurred.
Lunches
Students are responsible for bringing their own lunch to the program. Cooler space will be provided for cold lunches when we are on campus. When on field trips requiring lunches, we will bring coolers, but cannot guarantee the coolness of the lunches. Students should not plan on having access to microwaves or other methods of heating. They should also plan to bring their own utensils and napkins as needed.
Beverages
Water is available to children at all times. VERB encourages drinking plenty of water, especially in the summer sun. We will provide a VERB water bottle with your registration fees. This water bottle should be used throughout the summer to keep hydrated. If the bottle is lost or destroyed (they will melt in the dishwasher!), please provide a new water bottle for use during the summer. Children should bring their own juice drink or water bottle to lunch. No pop is allowed.
Snacks
The VERB Summer Program will provide a small morning snack and an afternoon snack. The VERBseeks to provide healthful snacks, but there may be some treats on occasion. If your child has any dietary restrictions or allergies, please note this on the registration form.
Other Classes
On occasion, other Calvary Lutheran Church and School teachers or community volunteers may come for fun activities like reading a story, acting out a skit, doing devotions, leading games, or art activities. These are special activities and are enjoyed by students and staff.
Drop-off/Pick-up Procedures
When you arrive, please walk your child into the building or playground where teachers and children are. Find the clipboard with your child’s class on it and sign in your child along with the time. Make sure that an adult staff member has seen you bring your
child in.
When you pick up your child, you must sign them out on the same clipboard they were signed in on, along with the time they leave. Please make sure that an adult staff member has seen you sign the clipboard and take your child.
A listing of all adults able to pick up or drop off your child must be provided with registration. Children will be released only to one of these people, unless we have been notified directly.
Attendance/Absence
Attendance will be taken each day. Parents will need to sign their child into and out of the program each day. Please call the Summer Program with any absences or tardies so we can alert the teachers.
Illness
If you child is ill, please do not bring him/her to the program. If your child becomes ill at the program, you will be asked to make arrangements as quickly as possible. Please notify the staff if your child has a communicable disease. If a child is exposed to any illnesses while at the program, parents will be notified. Immediate first aid will be provided for a child who sustains a minor injury and the parent will be notified at the end of the day. Students must be fever free for 24 hours to return to the program.
Medication
No medication, prescription or non-prescription, will be administered without written order by a physician that indicates the medication is for that specific child. No medication will be administered to a child without written parental authorization. All medication will be stored in a child-resistant safety containers, labeled with the child’s name, the name of the drug, and the directions for its administration. Any unused medication will be returned to the parent.
Items from Home
Children are not encouraged to bring items from home. Any item that is brought should be labeled with the child’s name. Children are responsible for their own items. The staff has the authority to take any items away that may cause a problem. Electronics are prohibited, including any personal game system, MP3 player, etc.
Weather or Emergency Cancellations
Every attempt will be made to call families prior to departure in the morning of any emergency cancellations. If time does not allow, the staff will alert the parents of the cancellation at drop-off.
Dress Code
Children should wear comfortable clothes for camp activities. They will play hard and may leave with dirty clothes. An extra pair of labeled clothes may be brought and left in the child’s club space to be used when clothes are dirty or wet. Children should wear shoes that will be appropriate for all activities. (No flip-flops except to swim in!) When going on a field trip, students will need to wear their VERB shirt. Shorts should be longer than the tips of the child’s fingers with their arms by their side. Shirts should be modest and no tube tops may be worn. Please remember we are a Christian program, logos and words on clothes should be God pleasing. For swimming, girls must wear one-piece bathing suits or two-piece suits that cover their stomachs.
Sunscreen and Bug Spray
Sunscreen and/or bug spray will be provided by the VERB summer program. Sunscreen will be SPF30 or higher. Bug spray will be child friendly. If our field trip will put us in contact with many bugs, Deep Woods Off will be made available.
Discipline
All employees of the VERB Summer Program will work to ensure that each child is cared for and valued. Children with behavior problems will be dealt with through love and respect. Parents will be informed of any problems relating to their child, and any course of action taken as a result. If a child’s behavior is unacceptable and/or recurrent, he/she may be asked to leave the VERB Summer Program.
Abuse Reporting
Childcare providers are mandated by the state to report cases of suspected abuse and neglect. Our staff has learned methods of observation and reporting procedures. This serious matter is handled with the safety and welfare of the child as the most important issue. The majority of abuse prevention must come from home. We are pleased to assist you by providing information and resource materials and sharing ideas or concerns.
The VERB Summer Program believes in giving a child much positive feedback, making them feel good about themselves, and preparing them to face the world with love and kindness. We accompany children to the bathroom and assist when needed, respecting each child’s right to privacy but providing adequate supervision. The staff is carefully selected and screened through the state for abuse reports. We are quite confident in the special staff selected to care for your child.
Student Non-discrimination policy
The VERB Summer Program admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admission policies, and other school administered programs.
