Students at Calvary Lutheran School have active minds and bodies!
We believe that regular physical activity is an essential part of the learning process. Our students are encouraged to stay active throughout the school day and also enjoy twice-weekly physical education classes, focused on the Missouri State Grade Level Expectations.
President’s Physical Fitness Challenge
Calvary students in 1st-8th grade participate in the President’s Physical Fitness Challenge. They work on skills throughout the school year and test on them in the spring. The five areas of testing include:
- The mile run (shorter for younger grades)
- Shuttle run
- Pull-ups or arm hang
- Sit-and-reach for flexibility
Starting in 4th grade, Calvary students have the opportunity to get involved in team sports through the Kansas City Lutheran Athletic League. Calvary participates with 10 other KC-area Lutheran schools in the following sports:
- Co-ed track and cross country (4th-8th grade)
- Boys soccer and basketball (5th-8th grade)
- Girls volleyball and basketball (5th-8th grade)
- Girls cheerleading (7th-8th grade)
Our student athletes engage in regular season play against each school in the league, along with a league tournament. Missouri teams also have the possibility of participating in state tournaments hosted by the Lutheran Sports Association of Missouri. Calvary students have qualified for state tournaments in basketball, volleyball, track, and cross country. (There is currently no state soccer tournament.)
